Articles within this theme present advances in understanding and/or technology that could progress established reservoir engineering practice.

BP have been investigating the potential for improved oil recovery through application of low salinity waterflooding. SPE Papers on the subject have been appearing since 2006 and include one by Shell.

The possibility of improved recovery through salinity modification has been known for sometime. A Joournal of Petroleum Science and Engineering article:

"Prospects of improving oil recovery related to wettability and brine composition" by Morrow et al

was published in 1998.

Galileo

Born 1564, Died 1642

of whom Stephn Hawkings says;

"... perhaps more than any other single person, was responsible for the birth of modern science."
